Safeguarding

The legacy of the Herschels is inspiring and fosters in young people a perspective of the world around them and a fascination in science. The Herschel Society wants to help parents and teachers encourage this, make science fun and help minds explore the historical and modern picture of the Universe.

The Herschel Society takes seriously its responsibilities to provide a safe and secure environment for children when they attend lectures, workshops or take part in the Society’s observing or outreach activities.

The Society’s Child Protection Responsible Officer (CPRO) is Charles Draper and either he or a deputy will be present at any event where we anticipate the presence of one or more children. The CPRO will be involved in the organisation, preparation and running of events and must be contacted for advice or to report problems in parallel to other reports to Children’s Services or the local Police.
